COUNCIL PRESIDENT'S REPORT
Report of the Woman's Missionary Council President
During the past conference year, we have stressed hospitality and praise God for His continued blessings upon our ministry. Our theme Making Room at the Table (Romans 12:13b) has emphasized evangelistic outreach to all cultures. What a joy to experience southern hospitality as I traveled over 4,896 miles in all four conferences.
Today the WMS is strong with 543 members and 70 societies. We rejoice that two new societies were organized this year in the Mid-South Conference including the Ivol McAdams Circle in Waynesboro, MS, and the Victoria Love Circle in Collinsville, MS. We have given over $20,000 to foreign missions. To God be the Glory!
Women with a Mission is our permanent motto, and we were delighted with the overwhelming favorable response to our first WMC Cookbook, Come and Dine. The finished product is a lovely, spiral-bound volume containing 1,000 recipes from women all across our denomination for the price of $10. Profit has been designated for missions.
We continue to provide the Missions Supply Room and Clothing Fund for missionaries returning on home assignment. Our newsletter, The Communicator, continues to inform and challenge our women for mission action. Currently there are 880 subscribers. We are grateful to Tom Owens and the Foundry Press staff for their assistance.
During the 2003-04 academic year, five Missionary Kid Scholarships totaling $2,500 were awarded. Amy J. and Daniel T. will be entering college this fall.
Our fourth Council Retreat was held at Shocco Springs, Talladega, AL, March 25-27, 2004, and was a grand success with 105 participants from all four conferences. Praise God for answered prayer as our hearts were blessed and challenged. Indeed, the retreat shall forever remain in our memory.
We have been blessed to have our Missionaries to Zimbabwe and our Missionaries to Ethiopia on home assignment. They have graciously spoken at our WMS conferences, retreats and district meetings. This year we are blessed to have our Missionaries to Cameroon on home assignment.
Our theme for 2004-2005 is Torchbearers based upon Philippians 3:14a, and we want to flood the world with Christ's light! Since we will be emphasizing service, we plan a Prison or Work Release Service Project. We pray that, like the stars, we will shine for the Lord and be infused with a greater burden to share the gospel and win the lost realizing G.O.S.P.E.L. means God Offers Sinful People Eternal Life.
Respectfully submitted,
Carolyn W. Holland
Council President
